We had a great time playing with Styrofoam and toothpick. The idea is to push the toothpick into the Styrofoam. This simple activity is great for fine motor skill & hand eye coordination. This activity kept my daughter busy for a long time.
If the child has difficulties in push the toothpick, we can do the pushing part and the child can remove them which still serves the purpose.
When she was loosing interest, I encouraged her to thread Cheerios in the toothpick. She was not interested.
Variations for the bigger kids :
1. Mark some points in the Styrofoam and encourage the child to place the toothpick in the points
2. Make colour points in the Styrofoam and encourage the child to place the coloured toothpick doing colour matching
3. Draw a picture in the Styrofoam and ask the child to push the toothpick in the outline of the picture
