Its all started when one of the avocado pits was exactly round. I just saved it without any further thoughts. After 3-4 days, the skin started peeling.
I cut the pit into 2 pieces following the natural line. Peeled the skin completely with nails.
Myself and my daughter shared a piece each. We thought of carving the pit with toothpick and soon realized it was not possible. We switched to push pin. My daughter settled with simple checks and dots but I wanted to carve. I tried egg carving but it was like Jack o’ lantern.
My daughter asked me, “Do you seriously think it is like an egg?”.
So for our next attempt, we did not cut the pits. Dried the pits with skin for 4 days and peeled the skin with nail. One of the pits was in cream color and another one was reddish.
Again used push pin and started carving. As soon as we carved, we did not notice any color change. But after few minutes, the carving became red in color.
We made a smiling face in the reddish pit as the shape was resembling a head.
My daughter accepted that the cream pit was like an egg. She said that other one was looking like a coconut.
It was 2 days since we did the carving. The pits are changing to dark brown. It is looking like wood. My daughter started searching the net to find out the reason of color change. A simple carving activity became a science activity too.
We have kept the pits for observation. Next time, I may weigh the pit every day just to extend our observations.
