Poppy flowers – painting with Kids

We did this beautiful poppy flowers painting with water balloons and acrylic paint. We had done painting with regular balloons earlier. That was the only reason we chose water balloon this time. Definitely water balloons gave us a different experience.
Materials Needed :
1. Water balloons
2. Acrylic paint – red and orange
3. White printer paper
4. Black acrylic paint in tube  – Optional
Method:

1. Pour red paint into the palette. We usually use an old plate as our palette. Pour a little bit orange paint on the top of the red paint.

2. Dip the bottom of the balloon in the paint and press it in the paper. Repeat as many flowers you want.

3. Just to add interest, we added the black color directly from the tube. The black can be painted using a brush too!

The black color took a little bit more time to dry. But it gave 3 dimensional effect.

While starting, we filled 4 to 5 balloons to create flowers of different dimensions. But soon my daughter found out that we can create different flowers just by varying the pressure of pressing.

My toddler too joined the fun!

We had an episode of breaking the balloon. But soon learnt the amount of pressure needed to create the flowers.

We all enjoyed the process. It is an error free method. While painting, my daughter was discussing the fact that the poppy is the state flower of California. Oh!
My daughter is already asking me to repeat this session! It is prefect for Spring.

  4. What a cool idea! Simple but beautiful. It’s pretty enough to use for my own crafts (I’m thinking use this in a scrapbook or on gift wrapping), but I’m sure my toddler would love to try this out too! Thanks for the idea 🙂
