Yarn painting ideas for kids

Yarn made flowers bouquet

May 6th (Tuesday) is the teacher appreciation day. My second grader is on vacation the entire week. So she wanted to give a card to her teacher earlier. She made this card with yarn made flowers bouquet.

Materials needed :

1. Yarn

2. Tempera paint

3. Card stock

4. Construction paper

5. White copier paper

6. Paint brushes

Method :

1. Fold card stock to look like a card.

2. Cut yarn into pieces.  Our yarn pieces were around 10 inches long.

3. Roll yarn around your index finger of the less dominant hand.

4. Paint the yarn rolled on your index finger with your dominant hand. My daughter used two or three colors mostly alternating between the colors.

4. Remove the yarn carefully from your hand. Place the yarn in our card stock in random shape.

Sorry about my daughter’s finger’s reflection on the picture

5. Cover the card with painted yarn with a white paper.

6. Hold the white paper tightly with your less dominant hand and start pulling one of the ends of the yarn.
7. Once the entire yarn piece is out, remove the white paper. A beautiful design will be on the card stock as well as on the white paper.
8. Repeat again if you need more flowers

As you can see, we got little overboard and created more flowers.
My daughter cut out a bow from the construction paper and added to the painting. She chose orange color for the bow as her teacher likes orange. She is yet to write inside the card.

It is a very simple and easy project for kids.
