1. Counting up to six is way behind my daughter’s current skill. I wanted to give her the understanding of counting by making her count up to three. So I covered the dice with masking tape. I wrote the numerals 1,2,3 with sharpie – each number on two sides.
2. We used beans as our counters.
Method:
1. Roll the dice.
2. Identify the number. Drop the corresponding number of beans into the vegetable steamer’s hole.
3. Take turns.
My toddler understood the rules. She was throwing the dice for the first time. She threw as if she was throwing the ball. It was very easy for her to identify the number rolled though. To my surprise, she was able to pick the correct of number of beans and drop into the steamer. However I had to remind her to roll the dice.
Skills:
Following rules, identifying numbers, counting, fine motor skill and taking turns.
This very simple basic game taught her many skills. I was very happy that she was able to understand and follow the rules.

Hi Dhiyana, I’m just stopping by from the Mom’s Library link up. This is such a great idea! My 2-year-old twins are still working on counting, they “count” everything, just not in the right order, it’s more like 3, 6, 8… 🙂 I’m going to try this activity with them and see how they do! Have a great day!
Hi Sarah! Thanks for the lovely comment.
Please try with your twins and let me know. Hope they like it!
