Fine motor activity ideas for kids

Taking paper out of the mesh bag

This simple and fun activity kept my toddler busy for more than 10 minutes.

I tore newspaper into pieces and put them into a vegetable mesh bag. I encouraged my daughter to take out the paper from the bag.

Initially she tried to make the paper fall. But the bag had a long neck and the paper was falling inside the bag itself.

Then she put her finger inside the bag to remove the paper. She could take out one or two pieces. She was not satisfied with her approach and started shaking the bag.

One of the pieces fell from the opening of the bag because of the shaking.

She found that there was another opening to remove the pieces easily.

After she removed her hand from the bag with few pieces in her hand, she again could not open the opening to get more pieces. But she was aware of the opening and asked me for help. I directed her and helped her to open the bag again.

After she removed all the paper, I encouraged her to drop the paper inside the bag. She could not manage holding the bag open with one hand and dropping pieces with another hand. So I dropped the paper into the bag again and she happily repeated the activity.

It was fun to watch my toddler trying out various options to remove the paper. This simple game helps her develop problem solving skills.
