Materials needed:
1. Empty Cereal box
2. Yarn
3. Aluminium foil (I forgot to include aluminium foil in the picture for “Aluminium foil art” 🙂 )
4. Sharpie
5. Ruler
6. Pencil
7. Scissors
8. Tape
Method :
Step 1 : Remove the flaps from the cereal box. Cut out one side of the box. That is the canvas for the project.
Step 2: Measure and mark dots 1 inch apart on all sides of the box. Make small slit in every dot. If you want the slits to be uniform, draw a 1/2 inch line on all sides and cut slits till the line.
Step 3: Attach the end of the yarn at the back of the box on any side with a piece of tape. Bring it front through the first slit. Bring the yarn all the way through the box and take it back through the first slit on the opposite side.
Step 4: Bring the yarn all the way through the box (now we are in the back of the box) and take it to the front through the second slit. Hope that makes sense. The picture may give you a better idea. We are wrapping the yarn through the slits.

Step 5: When you have reached the last slit, cut the yarn and attach it to the back side with a piece of tape.
Step 6: Repeat the steps 3 through 5 connecting other two sides. Square tiles are done with the yarn.
Step 7: Cut the foil slightly bigger the box. Wrap the front side of the box with aluminium foil and fold all four sides to the back. Gently press the foil with a piece of cloth. The squares show through the foil.

Step 8: Color the square with Sharpie. Our initial idea was to color all the tiles. But leaving tiles in the middle made the art look better. Doesn’t it look like a stained glass?
My daughter learnt measurements too. Since it is mess free art, even younger kids can do this!
