Hi Everyone,
My eight year old asks me to teach her crochet whenever she sees me doing. Last month when we tried, she was not able to do any stitches. But suddenly within a month’s time, she caught hold of chain and single crochet. We made this simple flower using those basic stitches – Chain and single crochet
Video that helped us to learn the stitches :
As my daughter is a visual learner, I usually show her videos first and demonstrate her later. The crochet video for beginner was really helpful for her. She learnt both her chain and single crochet from this video.
Ok, now moving on to the flower tutorial,
Materials needed :
1. Yarn (any type of yarn will do)
2. Hook (again any hook size will do. The size of the flower will vary based on the hook size)
3. Scissors
Step 1: Make a slip knot and chain 8
Step 2 : Slip stitch to make a circle. This circle is the center of the flower.
Step 3: Chain 6 and single crochet in the circle (center). This forms the petal.
Step 4 : Continue step 3, five more times to make six petals.
Step 5 : Cut the thread and sew the end.
This is a very simple flower for kids and beginners. As you can see, the stitches are not perfect. But my daughter gains a lot of confidence with simple projects like these. It literally took her 10 minutes to make a flower.
