I love activities which are very easy to set up but fun for my toddler. This activity is one of them. She is working on her fine motor skill too.
Materials needed:
1. Cup
2. Kitchen towel
3. Hair band
4. Tooth picks
5. A container to hold the tooth picks
Cover the mouth of the cup with kitchen towel and wrap a band around to keep the towel in place. Keep the tooth picks in a container near the cup. The set up is done. Didn’t I say that this activity is easy to set up?
The toddler has to drop the toothpicks through the kitchen towel into the cup. Initially it was difficult for my toddler as she was not holding the cup with her other hand. As the cup was moving when she was trying to drop, she held her cup with her other hand. Toddlers need activities where they use both their hands together.
Once she dropped the tooth pick, she was curious to find where it went. It was so much fun for her to make holes in the towel.
Then we took our towel outside and tried to see how the holes in the kitchen towel created beautiful shadow. It was difficult for my toddler to comprehend that the design (shadow) is because of the holes.
This easy to set up activity provides a lot of learning opportunities for the toddler – Fine motor skill, pincer grip, working with both hands together.
