Optical illusion 3D heart

I had written about our hand drawn 3D heart earlier. It was very simple to create. Again we tried creating a 3D heart using a slightly different technique. This is also a very simple and fun procedure! My eight year old enjoyed creating this 3D heart.

Materials needed

1. Copier paper

2. Sharpie or any marker

3. Ruler

4. Pencil

5. Eraser

Method

1. Make 1 inch squares in the paper. Mark points which are 1″ inch part on all four sides of the paper. Draw lines connect the corresponding points both horizontally and vertically. 1 inch squares are formed.

2. Draw a heart in the middle of the paper.

3. Erase the lines that are inside the heart.

4.There were four horizontal and four vertical lines inside the heart. We made the first two horizontal lines arched towards top and next two horizontal lines arched towards bottom. The same way, we made the first two vertical lines arched towards left and next two vertical lines arched towards right. It seems like a tedious procedure while reading. But it is pretty simple. Please refer the picture. You can see a 3D heart in the picture.

5. We made a horizontal and vertical straight lines in the middle of the heart. You can skip this step. I felt the heart had more 3D effect with straight lines but my daughter felt otherwise.

6. Start coloring alternate squares with the marker. Continue the coloring inside the heart too. Voila! Optical illusion 3 heart is been created with a simple procedure!

My daughter was marking the squares which need coloring and marked a square wrong. But still it did not affect the output.
