Method :
1. Draw a design in the paper. We chose Shamrock to make it as a St.Patrick’s day activity. Instead of copier paper, I chose watercolor paper for our painting. Crumbling was difficult with watercolor paper as it was thick. We had used copier paper earlier and I feel copier paper created better result.
2. Press the crayons hard and fill the design completely with concentric circles.
Kandinsky circles art is done. If you want you can stop here as the output looked lovely and complete. My daughter wanted to try batik and hence we did the following steps to create the batik effect.
3. Crumble the paper. This is the best part my daughter loves. Smooth it out. Repeat crumbling and smoothing for 3 to 4 times. The paper will become soft.
4. Color inside and outside the design with a very thin coat of watercolor.
5. Crayon will resist watercolor but watercolor fills the cracks creating the batik effect.
My daughter liked the shamrock without batik effect after doing batik. I felt the other way! What do you think?
