If we are in a situation where we have cricket fever but don’t have bat and ball, we play book cricket. It is a simple fun math game for kids. All you need to play this cricket is a book (best part!). Let’s see how to play this cricket without bat and ball.
Materials needed :
1. Book with page numbers
How to play the game:
1. Let the child open the book at random page and read the page number. The even number at the unit place of the page denotes the runs the child has scored. Ask the child to find the runs scored according to the table above.
2. If the child is not out, ask the child to repeat step 1. Encourage the child to add the current runs to the previously scored runs.
3. Let the child repeat step 1 and 2 until the child is out (i.e has zero at unit place)
4. When the child is out, the next person takes his turn. He plays and adds his runs until he is out.
5. Let the kids continue playing the game in the same manner taking turns one after another.
6. Whoever reaches 100 first is the winner. Of course, it can be changed based on the age of the kids.
What the child learns
1. Taking turns
2. Addition
3. Recognizing numbers
4. Odd and even number
5. Place value
6. Winning and losing
We play this game in the waiting rooms. As my daughter is very comfortable with addition now, we calculate the runs by multiplication. As of now, she needs paper and pen to calculate.
Did you get a chance to check out my popular post Games-to-play-with-3-year-old-without-anything? Those ten games are also waiting room games and they do not need anything to play with.
Hope you enjoyed reading the post. Please feel free to pin the following image!
I can use this in my classroom, too, but change the runs to integers or exponents or fractions… Fun idea, thanks!
wow! Fun ways to play..Thanks for visiting..
We always look for math games. We will give this one a try tonight.
