Materials needed to make these homemade Christmas ornaments :
- Aluminium foil
- Cardboard box. We used empty Pasta box.
- Yarn
- Red permanent marker
- School Glue
- Scissors
- Tape
Method:
- Draw and cut out Candy cane from the cardboard box. I drew the candy cane free hand. Many templates are available on the internet which can be used to draw the candy cane. Choose a template which has a wide curve. When we wrap the aluminium foil, wide curve works better.
- Cut around 5- 7 inches of yarn. Attach one end of the yarn at the back of the candy cane with a piece of tape.
- Wrap the yarn around the candy cane. My preschooler did the wrapping in both ornaments we made. It is good for her fine motor skill. Attach the end of the yarn at the back with a piece of tape.
- Cut out aluminium foil slightly bigger than the wrapped candy cane. Wrap the candy cane with aluminium foil.
- Attach the aluminium foil at the back of the candy cane with glue.
- Slightly rub the front side of the candy with fingers to reveal the yarn.
- Color the alternate spaces formed by yarn with red permanent marker. My preschooler did the coloring too. She was proud to use my markers.
- Attach apiece of yarn with glue to tie the ornament to the tree. The shiny candy cane ornaments are done!
