Color sorting activities are enjoyed by toddlers and preschoolers. We can slightly twist the color sorting activities to develop other skills like fine motor skills. I was little hesitant about setting up a color sorting activity for my preschooler thinking it might be very simple for her, but she enjoyed to the core.

Materials needed for setting up this color sorting activity:
- Ice cube tray
- Bowls
- Spoon or tongs
- Food Coloring
Method:
- This activity is very simple to set up. Mix food coloring to a glass of water one color at a time. Pour the colored water to ice cube tray. Freeze. I should have added a few more drops of food coloring. Our ice cubes were not bright. But that did not stop my daughter enjoying the activity.
- We used glass bowls for sorting . I wrote the name of the color in a marker and pasted it to the bowl. This set up made my preschooler to read the name of the colors. You can use color bowls like these if the child is yet to start reading.
- Initially I gave spoon to my daughter to sort the ice cubes. It was very simple for her to sort. So we moved on to tongs.
- She used the tongs to sort the ice cubes. A great work out for her fine motor skills!
It is easy to set up. We also did a color mixing activity with the same ice cubes. I will post about them in a separate post.
Isn’t easy to setup?
