Happy New Year to all my readers! Today I am sharing a simple and beautiful peacock craft idea for kids. India’s republic day is on Jan 26th. Peacock is India’s national bird. We made this peacock watercolor painting to honor India’s republic day. An insider’s scoop – we have made a couple of peacock crafts, Indian flag crafts over the holidays. Stay tuned for them.

Materials needed for this peacock craft idea for kids:
- Watercolor paint
- Watercolor paper
- White Crayon
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Black marker
Method:
- Draw the peacock with pencil. You can also use the peacock template available over the internet. But you need to transfer the picture on the template to the watercolor paper. I usually transfer the picture to the watercolor paper using a sunny window. Keep the watercolor paper over the template. Attach both of them to the sunny window with a piece of tape. The sun will make the papers transparent and the picture on the template will be visible on the watercolor paper for you to trace. For our painting, I drew the peacock free hand. Draw a mango shape for peacock’s body. I have drawn slightly darker so that it would be visible in the pictures.
- Draw raindrops for the feathers and add beak. This step is only for free hand drawing. If you have transferred the picture from the template, this step is not required.
- Trace the peacock picture in the watercolor paper with white crayon.
- Color the back ground. The white crayon will resist and will not allow the paint to get into the drawing.
- Color the peacock with watercolor paint. Add the eye and crown with black marker.
The beautiful watercolor peacock is done! My ten year old made this painting. They are few places where the paint has come out of the feathers. She could have removed those spilling with a paper towel when the paint was still wet.
What do you think about her painting?
