We always love to do valentines day activities like aluminium foil stained glass heart and Kandinsky inspired heart painting . They are always fun to do. Also, they make the home colorful which is required especially during these cold winter months. We created these art works by cutting and pasting the paper heart.
Materials needed to make this one of the simplest valentines day activities :
- Construction paper or color paper
- White printer paper
- Glue
- Scissors
- Pencil
Method:
- Take 1/2 sheet of color or construction paper. Cut into 3 pieces. Draw hearts in all three of them. I drew the heart shape touching one of the corners to make it simple for my preschooler to cut.
- Invite the child to cut the heart shape. Save the remaining paper too after cutting the heart.
- Paste a heart at the corner of the printer paper with school glue. Paste the paper from which the heart was cut just opposite to it (next to it).
- Below the heart, paste the cut out paper first and then paste the heart opposite to it. Please refer the picture below. It is pretty simple than it looks.
- It is very similar to the Japanese art Notan.
Tailored for bigger kids:
To make it a bit more interesting for my 10 year old, I made her consecutive heart shapes in a piece of color paper. They are hand drawn and I believe you can make it out from the picture below 🙂
Poke a hole on the “V” part of the hearts and cut along the lines. It would cut only the inside of the heart shapes like the stencil cut out. Paste the alternate heart shapes in the printer paper starting with the smallest heart in the middle. Since alternate heart shapes are pasted, the white space from the printer paper shows in between making it a beautiful art 🙂
Also, we pasted the color paper remaining after the hearts shapes were cut out and other hearts in the order of their size in another printer paper to create the second beautiful art. Bonus!
Aren’t they beautiful? It is hard to believe that these beautiful art works are done with cutting and pasting.
