Suncatcher is very simple to make and it beautifully decorates the window. My daughters and I made an alphabet suncatcher. It not only decorates the window but also provides alphabet learning opportunities to my preschooler.
Materials needed: (affiliation links are used)
1. Contact paper
2. Foam letter stickers
3. Colored tissue paper
4. Tape
Method:
1. Cut the tissue paper. My preschooler is so interested in cutting that she was cutting continuously for 15 minutes.
2. Cut the contact paper. Attach the contact paper to the window with a piece of tape with the sticky side of the contact paper facing out.
3. Encourage the kids to remove the backing from the form letter stickers. It is a good fine motor skill activity. My preschooler needed help.
4. Place the letters in the contact paper with their sticky side facing out. The stickiness in the contact paper was enough to hold the letters in place. This way we can avoid using glue. The letters would be upside down.
5. Cover the entire contact paper with the tissue papers. Even the letters can be covered.
6. Cover the entire setup with another piece of contact paper.
7. Remove the suncatcher from the window. Reverse it and paste again. This step is required to reverse the letters.
The alphabet suncatcher is done!
Cutting the tissue paper took more time for my preschooler than the sticking part. We all enjoyed the activity completely.
We identified alphabets and numbers with the suncatcher. But I have planned for a lot of learning activities to do with it. I will write about them in separate posts.
More suncatchers we have made in the past:
