Crayon resist watercolor technique is one of the most easiest water projects for kids. It is like a magic when the crayon resists the paint and pops up. We transferred the flower design from our laundry basket to the paper and made crayon resist.
Materials needed : (affiliation links)
2. Crayons
3. Watercolors
4. Some rough surface to transfer design
5. Tape
Method:
1. Attach the water color paper to the rough surface ( laundry basket in our case) with tape. Anything with rough surface like coin, leaf can be considered.
2. Choose a light color crayon. We chose white.
3. Begin rubbing the crayon by its side over the design. You may need to press slightly hard.
4. The design underneath will get transferred to the paper.
5. Apply a thin coat of watercolor paint over the design. The design will pop up.
It is a very simple painting activity. My preschooler needed help in rubbing but eight year old did it by herself.
We could not stop with one. We made few of them. The design looked like butterflies too.
