We used my preschooler’s peg board to do this simple and fun hands on phonetics activity. This activity can be done with mega bloks or LEGO or any other building toys available at home. My daughter was excited to use her toy in a different way!

Materials needed:
1. Peg board or Mega bloks or Lego or any other building toy
2. Masking tape
3. Sharpie marker
Preparation :
A little bit of preparation is required from our side. I attached the masking tape on the peg and wrote the CVC word with the marker. In the same way, I wrote each letter of the word separately in the same colored pegs. I used the same colored pegs for the entire word as my preschooler need not search the entire collection of pegs for the letters. She needs to just sort by color to find her letter.
How to play :
1. I attached the peg with the entire words in the peg board. Kept the pegs with individual letters on a bowl near the peg board.
2. I encouraged my daughter to choose a color and get all the three pegs of the same color from the bowl. Kept them separately near her.
3. She read the word from the peg that is attached to the peg board. She arranged the pegs in the same order that word is spelled and built the tower.
She enjoyed it thoroughly that she had to repeat it thrice. Other than working on her phonetic skill, my daughter is building fine motor skills and hand eye coordination too. I forgot to mention about color sorting!
