My grandma taught me to make dolls from chocolate paper, horn husk, paper etc. I love spending time with her. I still remember her simple procedure to make corn husk dolls. I made these corn husk dolls with my nine year old and we both enjoyed making them.
Materials needed:
1. Corn husk
2. Corn silk
3. Sharpie
4. Yarn
Method:
1 Remove the husk and silk from the corn. We used fresh corn husk. Dried corn husk works fine too.
2. Cut the thin portion from the top and the wide portion from the bottom of the husk.
3. Layer 3 to 4 husks one after the other. Keep the silk a little below the top end and fold the husk to cover the silk. Tie the portion below the silk with the yarn. The head is formed.
4. Take another husk and fold them length wise and width wise to make hand. Keep the hand inside the folded portion below the head and tie with the yarn.
5. Split the husk at the bottom to make legs. Tie yarn around the legs.
5. Draw eyes and mouth with Sharpie. Trim the silk.
My preschooler was telling that both dolls were sisters. These are very basic corn husk dolls and very simple to do.
